TBS programs Sunday as a sitcom conveyor belt. Friends takes the day from 8am ET to 5:30pm, nineteen episodes of season seven in order, and The Big Bang Theory takes everything from 5:30pm ET to 11:30pm: twelve half hours with no break for anything else. If you like the show, this is a generous evening. If you don’t, there is no second option on the channel until The Office closes the night at 11:30pm ET.

The thing worth noticing is where the run crosses a season line. Primetime opens at 8pm ET with season two, episode 21, and by 9:30pm ET it has rolled into season three, which starts with The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation. That is my pick for the night, mostly because it gives a flat run a hinge: the hour before is the end of one season, and everything after is the start of the next. The show has 12 seasons and 279 episodes to date, so TBS is not short of material, and the order here is steady rather than random.

For the hour before you can drop in anywhere. The 7:30pm episode (The Hofstadter Isotope) leads into the 8pm one without a seam, so there is no need to be punctual.

Against that, the competition at 8pm ET is thicker than TBS usually faces: The Simpsons on Fox, The Real Housewives of Potomac on Bravo and Naked and Afraid on Discovery. At 9:30pm ET it is Tracker on CBS and Married at First Sight on Bravo.

Two more things for the margins. Impractical Jokers fills the early hours, and Last Action Zero airs twice, at 5am and again at 7am ET. And Wonder Woman (2017), directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, takes 4 hours from 1am ET. It is a long overnight slot for a film that justified a bigger one.
