What’s on AMC tonight? Here is the full AMC schedule for Tuesday, October 27, 2026, with times in Eastern Time (ET).

AMC turns Tuesday into an Elm Street marathon, and the original at 7pm is the one to catch

AMC has cleared nearly the whole day for horror, and the best thing on it arrives at 7pm ET/PT (6pm Central): Wes Craven’s 1984 A Nightmare on Elm Street, which runs 135 minutes. If you only have one evening slot to give, give it to this one. It is the film every other title on the channel today is chasing, and the easiest 5-star call of the night.

The schedule is built as a run through the series. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master opens the afternoon at noon, New Nightmare follows at 2:15pm, and Freddy vs. Jason takes the 4:45pm slot. Then the main sequence begins: the original at 7pm, Freddy’s Revenge at 9:15pm and Dream Warriors at 11:15pm. Anyone who tunes in at 7pm and stays put gets the first three films in order, then a fourth at 11:15pm.

The sequel to watch

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) is the late-night reward, and it is the stronger of the two follow-ups on the evening bill. Chuck Russell directed it, and the cast includes Heather Langenkamp, Laurence Fishburne, Patricia Arquette and Robert Englund. It starts at 11:15pm ET/PT and runs 135 minutes, so it ends at 1:30am ET. That is a long ask on a Tuesday. It earns 4 stars, and anyone who has to be up early can record it.

The one in the middle

Freddy’s Revenge (1985) has the hardest job of the night. It sits at 9:15pm ET/PT (8:15pm Central), a quarter past the hour because the original runs long, and it is the weakest bridge between two better films. Three stars. It is the right place to stretch your legs, and the only thing on its slot that matters elsewhere is Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Bravo, which starts at about the same time and is a very different kind of late evening.

Earlier in the day

Freddy vs. Jason (2003) is the daytime pick for anyone who prefers a crossover to a sequence. Ronny Yu directed it, with Robert Englund in the cast, and it airs at 4:45pm ET/PT. It has already shown up in the window once this month, on October 20, so this is a return visit and not a debut. Dream Master at noon is a fair lunchtime option, and New Nightmare at 2:15pm is the odd one out among the series, running 150 minutes, the longest film on AMC’s bill today.

Before all of that, the morning belongs to Jason X at 9:45am and a Tales from the Crypt episode at 9am. The overnight hours carry Friday the 13th: Part 3 at 1am and Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter at 3am, which keeps the horror theme running through the small hours. The breakfast block is paid programming, as it is most days, with the Tales from the Crypt double bill at 5am as the only reason to be up.

How to plan the night

Start at 7pm for the original and decide at 9:15pm whether you want the middle film. If you skip it, you can pick the night back up at 11:15pm for Dream Warriors. A Nightmare on Elm Street airs four times across the window we can see, on October 24, 27, 28 and 29, so the original is not a one-night-only proposition, but tonight’s 7pm showing sits in the clearest part of the evening.

In the run-up to Halloween, AMC becomes a horror film channel

Across the two weeks we tracked, nine hours in ten of AMC’s airtime went to films, about 26 of them a week, and almost every one was a horror picture: slashers, ghost stories, monster movies and zombie films. That is AMC’s Halloween season, and it should be read as a season rather than a portrait. Two weeks of October cannot tell anyone what AMC looks like in March, so this page describes the season we measured and says so plainly.

What the window does show is a channel that commits completely. On weekends the film share climbed to 98%. Nothing at all ran on most days. Instead of daily strands, AMC builds its October out of franchises played in order and a few dozen favorites that come back three or four times in a fortnight.

What its day looks like

AMC’s day starts after midnight with films running back to back through the small hours. In the window, The Cabin in the Woods went out at 1:10am, The Conjuring at 1am and Cujo at midnight. On weekdays that run breaks between roughly 6am and 9am for a block of paid programming and infomercials, sometimes with an episode of Tales from the Crypt on either side. The anthology series turned up on seven of the fifteen days, most often around 9am or just before 6am, and is the closest thing AMC has to a daytime regular.

From 9am the films take over again in slots of about two hours, and they rarely stop. AMC’s schedulers like a theme day. One Monday in the window ran six Nightmare on Elm Street films from 11am, ending with the 1984 original at 8pm ET and Freddy’s Revenge at 10:15pm. A Friday carried nine Friday the 13th films across its 24 hours. A Wednesday stacked Halloween III, The Thing and the 1978 Halloween one after another, and a Saturday went from The Omen to Insidious to The Conjuring to two Final Destination films.

Primetime usually means two films: one at 8pm ET and a second at about 10pm. Two fixtures break that pattern. On Sundays at 9pm ET, The Terror: Devil in Silver ran as a pair of back-to-back episodes, the only scripted series AMC gave primetime to in the window, with repeats in the early hours of the following morning. On Thursdays at 9pm ET, TNA iMPACT! Wrestling took a two-hour slot, and it was the only program outside the horror season to hold a regular evening place.

Repeats are part of the design. Halloween (1978) aired four times, as did the 2009 Friday the 13th, while The Fly, Tremors, It, The Conjuring, Ghost Ship and A Nightmare on Elm Street each ran three times. Miss a title and it will very likely come round again within days, usually in a different slot. Late night is the same story as the afternoon: whatever started at 10pm finishes after midnight, and the next film follows straight on.

Popular shows on AMC

In this season the films are the shows. These are the titles AMC leaned on hardest, plus the one weekly program with a fixed home.

Halloween is the 1978 slasher directed by John Carpenter, starring Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis. It shared the top of AMC’s repeat count with Friday the 13th, usually around 6pm ET, and several of its sequels ran in the same fortnight, including Halloween 4 and Halloween 5 on a single afternoon.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is Wes Craven’s 1984 supernatural slasher, with Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon and Johnny Depp in the cast. AMC ran it three times and surrounded it with the sequels, from Freddy’s Revenge and Dream Warriors to New Nightmare and Freddy’s Dead.

Tremors is a 1990 comedy horror creature feature directed by Ron Underwood, starring Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward and Reba McEntire. It is the lighter end of AMC’s season and was one of the few films to reach primetime more than once.

The Thing is John Carpenter’s 1982 science fiction horror film, with Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley and Keith David. AMC gave it afternoon slots rather than primetime, twice in the window.

TNA iMPACT! Wrestling is a professional wrestling program that began in 2004 and has run to 16 seasons. On AMC it held Thursday at 9pm ET for two hours, the one weekly appointment in a schedule otherwise made of films.

How to watch AMC

AMC is a cable channel rather than a broadcast network, so it cannot be picked up free over the air with an antenna. The live channel is carried by most of the major live TV streaming services, which makes a cable package only one of several ways in. For on-demand viewing, AMC’s programming streams on AMC+. AMC’s own website also streams the channel to anyone who signs in with a TV provider login.

Channels like AMC

  • Syfy runs the closest October schedule to AMC’s: horror films through the afternoon and evening, with the Halloween and Texas Chainsaw franchises in heavy rotation.
  • IFC shares some of AMC’s exact titles at this time of year, including A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Amityville Horror and Tales from the Crypt, though sitcom reruns fill most of its day.
  • FX is built the same way, around 25 films a week and franchise days, but its lineup leans toward blockbusters rather than horror.
  • Freeform does Halloween for a family audience, with Hocus Pocus, Casper and The Addams Family instead of slashers.
  • TCM is the pick for films and nothing else: every hour we measured there went to movies, mostly from an older era.

Who it’s for

In this season, AMC is for horror fans who like a marathon: the whole Elm Street run in one sitting, or a Friday given over to Jason. It is also an easy channel to leave on, because the same few dozen films cycle round so often that nobody needs a schedule to find one. The weekday infomercial block makes it a poor bet before 9am. Anyone looking for new scripted drama will find one fixed appointment, the Sunday 9pm series, and very little else.

Does AMC show movies?

Yes, overwhelmingly in the run-up to Halloween. Across the two weeks we tracked, films took about 90% of AMC’s airtime, roughly 26 a week, and nearly all of them were horror.

What’s on AMC most nights?

Usually two films, one starting at 8pm ET and another at around 10pm ET. The exceptions were Sundays, when The Terror: Devil in Silver aired at 9pm ET, and Thursdays, when TNA iMPACT! Wrestling took 9pm to 11pm ET.

How can I watch AMC without cable?

Through a live TV streaming service that carries it, and most of the major ones do. AMC+ streams AMC’s programming on demand.

What time does primetime start on AMC?

At 8pm ET, which is when the first film of the evening usually begins.
