The tribes and the “Open Era”

Season 51 is the first season of what Jeff Probst calls the “Open Era”, in which anything from past seasons can come back into the game at any point. It has 21 players, three more than the usual 18, and all of them are new to the show. They were filmed over 26 days in the Mamanuca Islands, Fiji, in April and May 2026.

The castaways started on two tribes, Savu and Toka. Episode 4 brought the season’s first tribe swap, which split the game into three tribes and created a new one, Dina. Episode 5 then had two Tribal Councils in one night: Savu voted out Alexis Levine 3-1, and Dina’s vote tied 4-4 before the tribe agreed to send Linnea Capobianco home rather than go to rocks.

Rob Antonson is the only player so far to leave without being voted out: he quit in episode 3, the same episode in which Patt Cannaday was voted out.
