TBS has put a shark franchise on Halloween, and Jaws itself is the one to see

The best movie on TBS today is the one that starts at 5:15pm ET. Jaws, the 1975 Steven Spielberg film, runs 165 minutes and finishes at 8pm, which is exactly when the second film begins. If you watch only one thing on the channel, make it that, and give it five stars.

The channel has gone for a run through the series rather than a single showcase. Jaws: The Revenge, from 1987, airs at 1pm ET and again at 3:15am. Meg 2: The Trench follows at 3pm ET. Jaws 2, from 1978 and directed by Jeannot Szwarc, takes the 8pm ET primetime slot. It brings back Roy Scheider and Lorraine Gary from the first film, which gives it a reason to be the evening’s main course, though it is a step down from what precedes it. Three stars.

The Jaws sequel that deserves the most caution is the one TBS is showing twice. Jaws: The Revenge, directed by Joseph Sargent, has Michael Caine in its cast, and that is the best thing to say about it. One star, and a shame that it takes up two slots on a night when the first film is right there. Jaws 3 starts at 1am ET for night owls, and Jaws and Jaws 2 both aired on Oct. 30 as well, so the marathon is a two-night event.

Primetime closes with The Batman at 10:15pm ET, a 2022 film directed by Matt Reeves with Robert Pattinson in the title role, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell. At 225 minutes it runs to nearly 2am, which is long even by TBS’s standards, but it is also the only slot where TBS has little competition: Turner Classic Movies has Phantom of the Paradise and not much else starts in that window. Four stars, and worth the late night.

Outside primetime the channel is on its usual footing. Impractical Jokers fills the early morning, The Office runs from 7am ET and Friends carries through to the afternoon. Both air every day, so they are fixtures rather than Halloween programming, though The Office’s 7am hour is an episode titled Halloween, followed by Costume Contest at 8am.

At 8pm ET, Jaws 2 faces the World Series on Fox, Halloweentown on Disney Channel and Ghostbusters: Afterlife on FX. Movies on TBS air at the same local hour across the country, so that is 7pm Central and 8pm PT.
