Ghostbusters: Afterlife
MovieGhostbusters: Frozen Empire
MovieWhat’s on FX tonight? Here is the full FX schedule for Saturday, October 31, 2026, with times in Eastern Time (ET).
FX plays Halloween as a Ghostbusters day, and the 1984 original at 3pm is the one to find
FX has chosen the funny side of Halloween. From noon to the small hours it is Ghostbusters, five films in a row, and the one that earns the day is the 1984 original at 3pm ET/PT (2pm Central). It’s the oldest title in the run and the one the other four are measured against, so start there.
The evening is where the schedule gets awkward. Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the 2021 film directed by Jason Reitman, starts at 8pm, which is exactly when Fox starts the 2026 World Series. That one is live and goes out at the same moment nationwide, so a baseball fan is unlikely to be watching FX at all. The movie crowd gets a clear run, though: Afterlife, with Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, is a decent fit for a house with kids waiting on the doorbell. Disney Channel has Halloweentown at the same hour, which is the real family-viewing rival.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire follows at 10:30pm, a 2024 film directed by Gil Kenan with Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd and Ernie Hudson. It runs 155 minutes, so it finishes after 1am. Syfy starts a Halloween film at the same minute, which is the choice for anyone who wants the night to turn darker, not funnier. Frozen Empire is the one for staying on the sofa. I’d rate it level with Afterlife: both are fine, neither is the reason to turn the TV on.
The outsider is Beetlejuice at 10am, Tim Burton’s 1988 film with Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Catherine O’Hara. Genre tags call it a comedy horror, and that’s the kind of film that makes the most sense in daylight, before the evening crowd arrives. It is the best non-Ghostbusters choice on the channel, and the one I’d keep back for a morning with children. Mrs. Doubtfire follows at 7am, a 1993 film with Robin Williams and Sally Field, which is a stranger fit for Halloween but a three-hour block that takes you up to Beetlejuice.
Ghostbusters II, from 1989 and directed by Ivan Reitman, comes at 5:30pm with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis. It’s the weaker half of the original pair, but it is a good warm-up for Afterlife, which brings Murray and Aykroyd back. Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, the 2016 film directed by Paul Feig, has noon to itself and runs three hours, which is long for what it is.
Overnight, Morbius at 1:40am is a 2022 film directed by Daniel Espinosa. It’s here for the insomniacs and the horror and science fiction tag, and the pre-dawn hours after it fill up with paid programming.
If you want one thing, take Ghostbusters at 3pm. If you want an evening, leave it on from 5:30pm and switch to Syfy at 10:30pm when you want something scary.
