AMC spends the night on one franchise, and the middle chapter is the one to stay for
AMC has handed Wednesday evening to the Final Destination series: the 2000 original at 6pm ET, the 2003 sequel at 8pm ET and 2009’s The Final Destination at 10pm ET. Six straight hours of one idea. If you only have one slot, make it Final Destination 2 at 8pm ET, because it is the best-judged of the three for a weeknight: tighter than the opener’s slow build, and without the gloss that makes the 2009 entry feel like a theme-park ride.
That is a call about structure, not a promise about what happens on screen. What the record supports is this. Final Destination 2 comes from David R. Ellis and brings Ali Larter back from the first film, alongside A. J. Cook and Michael Landes. It is catalogued as horror and teen film. The first film, directed by James Wong, is a 120-minute warm-up with Devon Sawa and Tony Todd in the cast. Settle in at 6pm ET and you get the full run. Join at 8pm ET and you lose nothing you need.
The 8pm ET slot is also the crowded one. Survivor is on CBS, the 2026 World Series is on Fox, and Bravo has The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. A horror sequel that has aired three times in our 14-day window (Oct. 15 to 28) is not going to pull a sports audience. It will pick up whoever has already seen the baseball and wants something that doesn’t need attention.
The 10pm ET film is the weakest link. The Final Destination is the same director’s second go at the series, runs 120 minutes and is tagged as gore film and horror. It has appeared on only two days in the window, so it is the rarer of the three, but rarity isn’t quality. By 10pm ET the field is thinner anyway: Shark Tank on ABC, Ghost Adventures on Discovery and, on FX, Ghostbusters II.
The overnight slot is the real prize
Skip the Final Destination marathon entirely and the best horror on the channel is at 3:30am ET. The Conjuring, James Wan’s 2013 ghost film with Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, runs 150 minutes. Set the recorder. It is the strongest film AMC is showing all day, and it has been scheduled on four days in the window, which suggests the channel knows it.
Just before it, at 1:30am ET, comes the 2010 A Nightmare on Elm Street, Samuel Bayer’s remake with Jackie Earle Haley. A reasonable double bill for night owls, if not a distinguished one.
Daytime: pairs, in the wrong order
The daytime block is built from pairs. Jeepers Creepers 2 airs at 11:30am ET and its predecessor, Jeepers Creepers, follows at 1:30pm ET, so the sequel comes first. A strange way to run a pair, and a reason to treat the afternoon as background. House of Wax, the 2005 slasher with Elisha Cuthbert and Paris Hilton, takes the 3:30pm ET slot. The Crazies (2010, Breck Eisner, Timothy Olyphant) sits at 9am ET after six half-hours of paid programming from 6am.
Daytime horror is fine for a sick day. None of it is a reason to rearrange one.
