TNT has given the entire afternoon and evening to one franchise: four Jurassic World films run back to back from 1pm ET until midnight, eleven hours with no gap. If you want a Friday with nothing to decide, this is the channel, and the only real choice is when to join.

The 9pm ET slot is the one that matters, and it goes to Jurassic World: Dominion, a 2022 film that runs three hours. Colin Trevorrow, who directed the 2015 original, is behind this one too, and the cast brings Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum together with Bryce Dallas Howard. Three stars: a big way to spend a Friday night, and an honest three-hour commitment.

Here is the catch. Dominion also airs at 6pm ET, so a viewer who sits down at 9pm is watching the second showing of the same film in one evening. Anyone who missed the start can simply wait three hours and catch it from the top. TNT has built its night around that kind of forgiveness, and it makes the 9pm placement feel less like an event and more like a loop.

The earlier films are the better argument for tuning in sooner. Jurassic World (2015) opens the run at 1pm ET, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the 2018 entry directed by J. A. Bayona, follows at 3:30pm ET. Fallen Kingdom is the only one of the day’s films not directed by Trevorrow. I’d rate both of them level with Dominion: competent, well made, and very much what they say on the tin.

The competition at 9pm ET is crowded. Halloween is on AMC and Hocus Pocus 2 is on FX, which suits the date, and Fire Country is on CBS. None of them offers the same simple pitch as dinosaurs.

Earlier in the day the channel falls back on FBI, which fills the hours from 2am until noon in a long unbroken run. It’s a procedural strand and a perfectly good one, but it is wallpaper next to the film marathon that follows it.
