There is no spooky counter-programming here. Hallmark Mystery fills all 24 hours of October 31 with Christmas films, twelve of them, each two hours long, and the closest it comes to the date is the word “mystery” in its own name. For a Halloween viewer who wants something gentle, that is the pitch.

The evening is The Christmas Charade at 8pm ET, a 2024 film, followed by Gingerbread Miracle at 10pm ET, from 2021. The Charade is the pick: it’s the newer title, it gets the prime slot, and the title promises at least a nod to the channel’s mystery side. Gingerbread Miracle is the weaker pairing, a 2-star evening-closer that is competing with a lot, including 48 Hours on CBS, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on ION and The Spirit of Halloween on Hallmark Channel.

At 8pm ET the field is crowded: the World Series on Fox, FBI on CBS, Ghostbusters: Afterlife on FX and Halloweentown on Disney Channel all start within minutes. Hallmark Mystery’s counter is Christmas Charade, and its only sibling rival is Adopting St. Nick on Hallmark Channel at the same time.

The most interesting film of the day comes early. Magical Christmas Ornaments, a 2017 television film directed by Don McBrearty, was made for this channel and stars Jessica Lowndes, Brendan Penny and Tim Matheson. It airs at 8am ET, and it also appears on October 18, so the channel is leaning on it. Silver Bells, a 2005 television film with Anne Heche, opens the day at midnight ET, and Sleigh Bells Ring from 2016 follows at 6am ET.

If you only tune in once, make it 8pm ET. If you are up in the small hours, the overnight run has the day’s oldest film, Silver Bells.
