Hallmark Channel skips Halloween until the last slot

On the one night of the year built around pumpkins, Hallmark Channel is showing Christmas movies from midnight to 10pm ET, and only then turns to its own Halloween title. The Spirit of Halloween, a 2026 film, starts at 10pm ET, and it is the one slot on the day that reads as a nod to the date. It’s the pick, partly because it’s the only thing on the channel that fits the night and partly because a network that spends 22 hours on tinsel deserves a look when it changes course.

Everything before it is a two-hour block, one film after another, with no breaks in rhythm. That makes the evening easy to plan around. If you want the festive version of Halloween night, the 8pm ET slot belongs to Adopting St. Nick, another 2026 film. It’s up against the 2026 World Series on Fox, Ghostbusters: Afterlife on FX and Halloweentown on Disney Channel, so Hallmark is offering the cosiest of the alternatives and not competing for the same viewer. Its sister channel, Hallmark Mystery, puts The Christmas Charade in the same 8pm ET hour, so the choice here is between two Christmas films from the same family of channels.

The 6pm ET film, Who’s Coming for Christmas?, is the other 2026 title, and it also aired the night before. That is worth knowing if you plan to watch it on the weekend, because the channel clearly expects it to find its audience over two evenings.

The daytime is for the committed. A Very Merry Mix-Up, from 2013, runs at 4pm ET and is one of several older titles in the afternoon, and Snow Bride, also from 2013, sits in the morning slot. The Christmas Train, a 2017 film, opens the day’s breakfast at 8am ET. None of these is an event; they’re the rotation, and the point of the rotation is that it is always there.

My view: this is a good night for Hallmark’s regulars and a poor one for anyone who has not yet started the season. The 8pm ET film is fine company, but The Spirit of Halloween at 10pm ET is the reason to check in.
