Freeform gives Halloween week a family-friendly night, and runs Casper twice

Freeform’s Thursday is a day of movies for the whole household, and the primetime choice is Casper at 8:35pm ET, the same 1995 film it showed at 1:30pm. That is a lot of Casper for one day, and the channel has had it on seven days in the current window. If you missed it in the afternoon, tonight is the second chance. If you didn’t, the better use of the evening is the animation block that leads into it.

Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University

The strongest stretch of Freeform’s day is Monsters, Inc. at 4pm ET (125 minutes) followed straight away by Monsters University at 6:05pm ET (150 minutes). Back to back, they fill the whole late afternoon and early evening, and they are the right way to spend the build-up to Halloween with younger viewers. The first is the better film, and I’d rate it a notch higher. Both are in the window for two days only, so neither is stale.

Casper at 8:35pm ET

Casper (1995) is listed in primetime at 145 minutes, five minutes shorter than the afternoon’s 150-minute slot. It runs against comfort fare elsewhere: The Office on Comedy Central, Phineas and Ferb on Disney Channel, and The Crow on Syfy, if the household wants something darker. For a family evening it’s a safe choice rather than an exciting one, and three stars is fair.

Scooby-Doo and the sitcom block

Scooby-Doo (2002), directed by Raja Gosnell, with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Matthew Lillard, arrives at 11:30am ET and runs 120 minutes. Boy Meets World fills most of the morning and the small hours, including Season 5, Episode 1 at 10:30am ET. It airs every day, so it’s a fixture. It is comfort viewing and nothing more.

Late

The 700 Club airs at 3am, 9am and again at 11pm ET, plus 700 Club Interactive at 10am. Nothing to report there.
