Sundance TV tonight is a Law & Order marathon with one stranger at the end

If you land on Sundance TV on Thursday, expect Law & Order and not much else. Nine episodes run through the day, from midnight to the 11:01pm closer, and the primetime pair at 8pm and 9pm ET/PT (7pm and 8pm Central) is simply two more in the same run: “Nowhere Man” and “Everybody Loves Raimondo’s”.

That is the whole pitch, and it is a fair one. The series is American police procedural and legal drama with 523 episodes to date, and a back-to-back block suits it, because each hour stands alone and you can join anywhere. The 8pm hour is the pick only because it opens the block. Nothing in the schedule marks one of tonight’s hours as better than the next.

The 10pm ET slot is the odd one out. “Archive X: Unexplained Phenomena Sneak Peak” is the longest thing on in primetime at 61 minutes, and it sits between two Law & Order hours. It is a title that has aired on six of the days we can see, so it is not a one-off. Whether it is worth leaving the marathon for depends on how much you want a change of pace; the schedule gives no reason to rate it above the crime run, and I have not.

Against the networks, Sundance is the quiet choice. At 8pm it faces 9-1-1 on ABC, Beat Bobby Flay on Food Network and a stack of reality shows, so it works best as the rerun you leave on, not the thing you plan an evening around.
