The Fellowship of the Ring airs twice today, at 11am ET and again at 7:30pm ET/PT (6:30pm Central), with The Two Towers wedged in between at 3:20pm. That is three Peter Jackson films from 2001 and 2002 occupying the schedule from late morning until midnight. The slots are huge: 260 minutes for the first airing, 250 for the sequel and 270 for the evening repeat, so these are long, heavily padded windows.

The evening Fellowship is the one to watch, and it is the only primetime programming on the channel. At 7:30pm it begins a 270-minute stretch that takes the night to midnight, with Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen and Sean Astin in the cast. If you have missed it, or want it as the opener to a weekend marathon, this is the sensible start. The earlier 11am showing is the better choice if you would rather be done by the afternoon, since Two Towers follows directly after.

The day’s second theme is Everybody Loves Raymond, which fills the early morning for ten episodes in order from 6am. Overnight, Scream (1996, Wes Craven) arrives at 2am ET, and Bar Rescue closes out the early hours.

Nothing here is a surprise. It is a fantasy-film day, and a good one.
