Paramount Network runs the Addams double bill, and the sequel is the one to catch

Paramount Network has built Wednesday around two movies and one of them airs twice. The Addams Family (1991) plays at 6pm ET and again at 10:30pm, with Addams Family Values (1993) in between at 8:30pm. If you only have one slot, take the sequel.

Addams Family Values is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and cast with Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd, Joan Cusack and Christina Ricci. It’s a horror comedy with a fantasy streak, and it is the better-timed airing. Its main rivals at 8:30pm are Abbott Elementary on ABC and House Hunters on HGTV, neither of which is competing for the same mood. IFC is also running Tales from the Crypt against it, which is the only other spooky option on the dial and makes a decent chaser afterwards. Four stars.

The original is the weaker slot, and not because of the film. It’s the same movie the channel showed at 6pm, so the 10:30pm run is a late-night rerun of an early-evening choice. It also lands against Impractical Jokers on TBS and The Real Housewives of Orange County on Bravo, both with established followings. Three stars: fine if you missed it earlier, redundant if you didn’t.

The rest of the day is Bar Rescue from 7am ET until 6pm, with the series opener of season four, “Bug Bite,” at 8am. Overnight it’s Miss Congeniality at 1:30am and Legally Blonde at 4am, which are for people who are still up.
