ION’s Friday is S.W.A.T. almost end to end, and the marathon has a hole in it: the run goes from season 8 episode 12 at 7pm ET to episode 14 at 9pm, with nothing listed at 8pm. Whatever ION has in that hour, the schedule is not saying, so anyone following the story in order should check before they sit down.

The show itself is a CBS crime drama that ran from 2017 to 2025, with Shemar Moore at the head of the cast, and ION has now taken it on as the backbone of the schedule. Tonight is the eighth season, from episode 3 at 10am ET through to episode 16 at 11pm, thirteen hours in all. The primetime pair is The Santa Clara at 9pm ET/PT (8pm Central) and Hostages at 10pm, and they are both rated three stars because they are what ION does reliably: a procedural with a steady rhythm, easy to join part-way through and easy to leave.

Which is the real question about the marathon. Daytime S.W.A.T. in one-hour blocks suits a viewer who drifts in and out, and the schedule offers a lot of rejoining points, from Human Interest at noon through Open Season at 4pm. The night is more of the same. If you are going to commit to one hour, make it The Santa Clara. It is the earliest of the primetime pair, and at 9pm it is up against 20/20 on ABC and Fire Country on CBS, so it is the quieter option in a crowded hour.

Hail Mary closes the evening at 11pm. The overnight belongs to FBI, three consecutive episodes from midnight (Family Man, Cops and Robbers and This Land Is Your Land), followed by paid programming and Through the Bible with Les Feldick until 6am. In the early morning, Xploration Awesome Planet fills four straight half-hours from 7am, a documentary strand that repeats through the morning.

Verdict: a schedule for people who already like the show, with the 8pm gap as the one thing to watch for.
