IFC gives the night before Halloween to horror, all day

IFC has put ten horror films end to end, starting at 1:15am, and the evening’s centerpiece is Christine at 8:30pm ET. It runs 150 minutes and is the only film in primetime. Against it sit Blade II on Bravo and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire on Freeform, so the channel is offering a 1983 film against two franchise sequels. Four stars, and the pick.

The daytime is the stronger argument for staying put. The Shining (1980), Stanley Kubrick’s film with Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd, starts at 12:30pm and runs 195 minutes, the longest film of the day. Five stars, no argument. Misery follows at 3:45pm, and Carrie at 6:15pm leads in to Christine, so there is a clear run of three horror films from lunchtime into primetime.

Earlier, The Mist (2007), from Frank Darabont with Thomas Jane and Marcia Gay Harden, plays at 5:30am and is worth recording if you do not keep those hours. 1408, with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, follows at 8:15am, then Thinner at 10:30am.

The overnight and late slots are the weaker end. Friday the 13th, the 2009 version, closes the day at 11pm. The Faculty and Graveyard Shift fill the small hours, and Graveyard Shift has been scheduled three times across this window.
