There is one reason to turn on The CW tonight, and it’s Ocean’s Eleven at 7pm ET/PT (6pm Central). Almost everything else on the channel today is labeled Local Programs, which means the schedule is out of the network’s hands and depends on where you live.

Start with the movie, because it is the whole case. Ocean’s Eleven is the 2001 heist comedy directed by Steven Soderbergh, with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Bernie Mac, Elliott Gould and Casey Affleck in the cast. It’s based on the earlier Ocean’s 11. It gets a three-hour slot, so don’t plan on a clean two hours. Even so, a polished caper with that cast is a solid Sunday-evening offer, and it lands at an easy hour: early enough for the whole household, late enough that dinner is over.

After the movie, the channel’s primetime is a single block at 10pm: two hours of Local Programs. Whatever your station fills that with, it starts against Late Night Law on A&E, Family Guy on Comedy Central, Naked and Afraid on Discovery, and National Treasure: Book of Secrets on FX. The Little Mermaid is on Freeform and Bobby Flay’s The Line on Food Network. That’s a crowded 10pm, and a local news hour or a syndicated block will have to work hard to hold anyone.

The only named show outside the movie is The Hill Sunday with Chris Stirewalt, a 10am hour that also ran on October 25. It’s the sort of political talk slot that gets a quick look over coffee, and I wouldn’t rearrange a morning for it. Everything else is Local Programs: 1:30am for five and a half hours, 6am for four, 11am for six, and 5pm for two, running up to the movie. That’s seventeen and a half hours of a channel whose schedule you can’t read from here.

So the call is simple. If you like a heist movie and have the evening free, 7pm is your window. If you don’t, this is a night to look elsewhere. Tonight’s The CW is thin, and it’s better to say so than to dress it up.
