Fox is a baseball network tonight, and everything else is a long wait for first pitch

Fox’s Wednesday is simple to report: the 2026 World Series, live, with an hour of pregame ahead of it. Nothing else on the schedule matters. The game is listed at 8pm ET (5pm PT), and it carries the 180-minute slot as the only primetime programme the network is showing. If you have any interest in baseball, this is your night. If you don’t, Fox has nothing for you.

The game

The World Series is a live event, so unlike recorded primetime it airs at one moment nationwide: 8pm ET, 5pm PT, 7pm Central. Fox blocks out three hours for it, which is a placeholder rather than a promise, since a baseball game runs as long as it runs. Extra innings or a long night on the mound can stretch it, and the 11pm hour on local stations may start late as a result. Fox isn’t saying who is playing tonight. This is the fifth night of the Series on the network’s schedule in this stretch, after October 23, 24, 26 and 27.

It faces heavy competition on paper, but only in the sense that every other network is putting something on at 8pm. CBS has Survivor, ABC has Scrubs and Bravo has The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. None of those will compete with a live championship game for the people who care, and Fox knows it.

The pregame

MLB on FOX Pregame starts at 7pm ET (4pm PT), a full hour before the first pitch. Pregame shows run on the same logic everywhere: they are for people who want to settle in, hear who is starting and get in the mood. An hour is a long run-up, though, and the real advice is to join late. Anyone who tunes in at 7:45pm ET will miss nothing a first-time viewer needs.

The rest of the day

Fox’s local stations fill most of the day. The schedule runs local programs from midnight to 6am, from 6am to noon and from noon to 6pm, then another hour at 6pm before the pregame. After the game, local programs return at 11pm ET. Expect that block to slip if the game runs long.

Verdict

Five stars for the Series itself, because no other programme on any network tonight has this much on the line. Three for the pregame, which is helpful but skippable. The rest of Fox’s day is a local blank, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.
