Food Network gives the whole night to Guy Fieri and a Halloween theme

Food Network’s Wednesday is a single show with a costume on. Guy’s Grocery Games fills every hour from 1pm ET to midnight, and from 8pm ET/PT (7pm Central) the episodes are all Halloween-themed: “Guy’s Ghostly Games” at 8pm, “Flavortown Fright Night” at 9pm, “Halloween Spook-Tacular” at 10pm and “An Offal Halloween” at 11pm. Four hours of one format is a bold way to spend primetime, and it only works if you like the format.

If you do, 8pm is the place to start. The show is a reality cooking competition fronted by Guy Fieri, and the schedule has clearly been shaped for October 28, three days before Halloween. Overnight it is Bobby’s Triple Threat and Bobby Flay’s The Line, plus two Carnival Eats half hours at 4am ET. None of it is plot-driven, so you can join at any hour.

The verdict: a themed night for people who already like the show, and a fairly easy one to ignore for everyone else.
