On a night when most of the dial has gone to horror, Comedy Central has booked Pitch Perfect twice and Just Go with It in between. It is the counter-programming option, and it is a fair one if you’ve had enough of masks.

Pitch Perfect, the 2012 musical comedy directed by Jason Moore, is the pick. It airs at 4:20pm ET and again at 9:40pm ET, which is a lot of faith in one movie. The late slot is 160 minutes, so it runs past midnight. At 9:40pm it is up against Hocus Pocus 2 on Freeform, Freddy vs. Jason on IFC and The Munsters on Cozi TV, so the choice is stark: sing-along or scares. Three stars, because it is a safe movie in a slot that rewards safe.

Just Go with It, the 2011 romantic comedy directed by Dennis Dugan, fills the early evening at 7pm ET. I’d give it two stars. It is a lighter proposition than the 9:40pm movie and mostly there to keep the channel’s evening from starting cold.

The afternoon carries Step Brothers at noon and 50 First Dates at 2:10pm ET, so the daytime is a four-movie run before primetime. That is a movie channel’s Saturday, not a sitcom channel’s.

The Office takes the early morning, with episodes from season two starting at 8am ET, and South Park fills the overnight hours and the early breakfast slots. Both are fixtures. If you want the evening’s real choice, it is those two movies, and nothing else on the schedule competes with them for your time.
