MeTV gives Halloween night to Svengoolie, twice over

On the one night of the year built for it, MeTV hands its evening to Svengoolie: a three-hour block starting at 7pm ET (The Wizard of Oz), then a two-hour one at 10pm ET with Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. That is five of the evening’s last seven hours given to a single host, and it is the right call. The 10pm slot is the pick, and the better of the two for anyone who wants to settle in once trick-or-treating is done.

The 10pm showing is also the one with the least competition worth the name. Against it sit 48 Hours on CBS, Expedition X on Discovery, Halloween Baking Championship on Food Network and The Spirit of Halloween on Hallmark Channel. Nothing there is another late-night host, which makes this MeTV’s easiest win of the week. Svengoolie has been running for 680 episodes to date, and this is season 32, so the format is long past needing a case made for it.

Before that, the early evening is a short run of Three Stooges comedies: Three Little Pigskins at 6pm ET, then Commotion on the Ocean and Three Arabian Nuts, the last of them at 6:40pm ET. They are twenty-minute slots, easy to dip in and out of while the doorbell goes.

The daytime is the usual MeTV rotation of Westerns and cartoons, with Bonanza, Gunsmoke and The Rifleman all daily fixtures. They stay in the table. This is a night to tune in for 7pm and 10pm.
