Grit ignores the date. While the rest of the dial leans into Halloween, it shows eight Westerns across the day, and the one to catch is The Big Gundown at 8pm ET, a 1966 Spaghetti Western directed by Sergio Sollima with Lee Van Cleef in the cast. It is up against a long list: the World Series on Fox, Ghostbusters: Afterlife on FX, Halloweentown on Disney Channel. For anyone who wants none of that, it is the obvious refuge.

The Ruthless Four follows at 10pm ET, a 1968 Spaghetti Western with Van Heflin, Gilbert Roland and Klaus Kinski, running two and a half hours. It is a decent second feature, a notch under the 8pm film. It does the job of keeping the channel in Spaghetti Western territory until midnight, and then The Night of the Grizzly takes over at 12:15am ET.

The afternoon is the stronger stretch than the schedule suggests. Blood on the Moon at 3:30pm ET is a 1948 Western and film noir directed by Robert Wise, with Robert Mitchum heading the cast. It is the oldest film on the day’s list and the one I’d record if I could only keep one.

Mornings belong to The Texan, which starts again from the first episode at 6am ET, and The Lone Ranger.
