Everything worth watching on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, across 31 channels.

Survivor is the night’s best use of the 8pm hour

Wednesday is a Halloween-week night, and the broadcast networks are splitting between live baseball and a block of their regular shows. The one that gives the evening a shape is CBS: Survivor at 8pm ET/PT (7pm Central) runs 90 minutes, and The Amazing Race follows at 9:30pm ET/PT. That is a full evening of competition TV on one channel, with no decision to make after the first one.

The price is the 8pm clash, which is the most crowded hour of the night. FOX has the 2026 World Series at 8pm ET (5pm PT), a three-hour slot that will swallow anyone who cares about the result. NBC opens its Chicago block with Chicago Med, ABC has Scrubs, ION has Blue Bloods and USA has 9-1-1. If the game matters to you, watch the game. If it doesn’t, Survivor is the strongest competition show on the dial, and it’s the pick.

The 9pm fork: Chicago, Millionaire or Hocus Pocus

Past 9pm the networks settle into their own lanes. NBC keeps going with Chicago Fire at 9pm and Chicago P.D. at 10pm, so anyone who started with Chicago Med has a three-hour evening laid out. ABC drops Abbott Elementary at 8:30pm, with an episode called “Halloween Party”, then moves to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire at 9:02pm and Shark Tank at 10:01pm. The Millionaire episode is titled around the Naders and a Colin Jost and Michael Che pairing, which is the most star-heavy thing on the network side after the baseball.

The better counter-programming is on cable. Freeform has Hocus Pocus at 8:50pm, a sensible late start for a family that wants something light before bed. Paramount Network has Addams Family Values at 8:30pm and The Addams Family at 10:30pm, which makes a two-film evening if you time it right.

Movies: the scary and the silly

This is a heavy night for movies. AMC runs Final Destination 2 at 8pm and The Final Destination at 10pm. Syfy has Ghostbusters: Answer the Call at 9pm, and FX follows with Ghostbusters II at 10pm, so a Ghostbusters double bill needs a channel switch at the hour. HBO has The Invite at 8:55pm and The Housemaid at 10:45pm. TCM goes the other direction with 100 Rifles at 8pm and The Greatest at 10pm.

Hidden away on IFC is a run of Tales from the Crypt. It starts at 8:28pm and keeps going, with an episode from season three at 9:01pm and one from season one at 10:21pm. It is the cheapest way to get a Halloween mood without committing to a movie.

Food Network deserves a note for Guy’s Grocery Games, which has three entries from 8pm to 10pm, including “Flavortown Fright Night”. The 10pm one is the first episode of season 11.

The short version

Survivor at 8pm ET/PT, then The Amazing Race at 9:30pm ET/PT, unless the World Series is the reason you turned the TV on.
