Full Film4 listings for Sunday 1 November 2026, with times in London local time.

Film4 keeps the family films for daytime and the best two for after dark

Film4’s Sunday has a clear split. The day is for family films, and the evening belongs to science fiction: The Creator at 9pm, then Ex Machina at 11.40pm. If you’ve got time for both, it’s a very good night in front of the television.

The Creator is the one to put first. It’s a 2023 film directed by Gareth Edwards, with John David Washington, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney and Ken Watanabe, and it runs for 160 minutes. That’s a long commitment, and the 9pm start means it finishes at 11.40pm, exactly when Ex Machina begins. Against it, Gogglebox, Cops and Live: NFL on 5 are on elsewhere, but none of them is a rival in the same sense. Four stars.

Ex Machina is the stronger film, and it gets five. Alex Garland’s 2014 science fiction thriller stars Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander, and it runs 130 minutes. Because it starts straight after The Creator, you’d need to commit to a very late night to see them back to back. As a double bill it’s coherent, which is rarer than it should be.

Before that, Horizon Line at 7.15pm is a 2020 thriller directed by Mikael Marcimain, with Allison Williams and Alexander Dreymon. It’s on Film4 on two days in this window, so it isn’t a one-off. It’s a modest opener, and it’s up against Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One, which is the likelier choice for most viewers. Two stars.

The daytime is the family block. Tooth Fairy, with Dwayne Johnson, starts at 11am and is followed by Miracle on 34th Street at 1.05pm and Arthur Christmas at 3.20pm. Arthur Christmas is the best of the three and the one worth planning around: a 2011 animated comedy directed by Sarah Smith, with James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie and Bill Nighy. 10 Things I Hate About You follows at 5.20pm, a 1999 teen film with Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, and it’s a good bridge into the evening.

The overnight slot has Antlers at 1.55am, a 2021 horror film with Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons. It’s for the committed, and teleshopping fills the rest of the small hours. The table has every time.
