Full E4 listings for Tuesday 27 October 2026, with times in London local time.

E4 turns its evening into a long run of people being watched

Three hours of E4 tonight come down to two reality formats and a sitcom. First Dates at 8pm is the best of them, and it is the programme to start with: an hour in a restaurant with Fred Sirieix, CiCi Coleman and Merlin Griffiths, listed as episode eight of series 12. It is the most reliable thing on the channel, and it has fifty episodes on the books for the British version alone. Four stars.

Gogglebox then takes over for two hours. Episode three of series 21 is on at 9pm and episode four at 10pm, which gives the channel two full hours of the same show on one night. That is generous, and it is also a little lazy: the format is built for a single sitting a week, and a double dose asks the audience to enjoy it twice as much. It faces Blue Lights on BBC One and Ben Fogle on Channel 5 at 9pm, so it is the easy choice for anyone who wants to switch off. Three stars for the first hour, and the second is a matter of stamina.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the quiet success

At 7.30pm E4 runs Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the comedy series that ran for eight series and 153 episodes, with Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz and Terry Crews in the cast. Tonight’s is AC/DC, from the second series. It is on E4 almost every day in the window, and it holds up better than most things scheduled that often. Against EastEnders on BBC One and Tipping Point on ITV1, it is the easy half-hour. Four stars, and the best-value slot of the evening.

Hollyoaks and the early evening

Hollyoaks opens primetime at 7pm with episode 128 of the 2026 run. The soap has been going since 1995 and has racked up 4,795 episodes, which makes it a rare example of a programme where the number tells you something real about the schedule. E4 also has two earlier episodes on at 6am, so the soap gets three slots in a day. Three stars, because the form is dependable and a soap is rarely a surprise.

Before that, the early evening belongs to The Simpsons, four episodes from 5pm to 7pm. It airs on E4 every day, so this is a fixture and not an event.

The rest of the day

Daytime is Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA overnight and through the morning, then Modern Family from 11am and again through the afternoon, with a series-five opener at 4pm. The Goldbergs runs twice. After Gogglebox comes one more late-night entry, Dating Naked USA at 5 past 11.

Overall this is an E4 night for those who like their television with a bit of noise on in the background. First Dates, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the first Gogglebox are the three to catch.

The Simpsons channel, with reality television after dark

E4 is a British channel that launched in 2001, and over the five weeks we tracked it showed The Simpsons 323 times. That is nearly ten episodes a day, every day, and it is the single fact that explains E4. Around it sit two more American sitcoms on heavy rotation, Modern Family (193 airings) and The Goldbergs (95), and once the evening starts the channel turns to dating shows, Gogglebox and Hollyoaks. It is a schedule built on repetition: 93% of airtime went to titles that recurred on three or more days.

What a day on E4 looks like

Early morning. Hollyoaks repeats or the weekend Hollyoaks omnibus often take 6am. Rude(ish) Tube sits at 6.55am on most days and Couples Come Dine with Me at 7am, followed on some mornings by Don’t Tell the Bride. From about 8am Gordon Ramsay arrives in one form or another: Ramsay’s Hotel Hell, Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back, then Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA around 9am, which aired 81 times in the window.

Late morning and afternoon. Below Deck Down Under usually comes in around 10am, then Modern Family from about 11am. From early afternoon it is sitcom blocks: The Simpsons from around 1.30pm and The Goldbergs from about 2pm, often alternating in runs of several episodes until teatime.

The evening, 6pm to 10.30pm. On weekdays the evening is fixed and easy to learn. The Simpsons often runs into 7pm, Hollyoaks takes 7pm on the nights it airs, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is at 7.30pm (on 25 evenings in our window), and 8pm belongs to First Dates or Below Deck Down Under. At 9pm the channel rotates: Made in Chelsea, Celebrity Gogglebox, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA, or a film. Gogglebox then holds 10pm, and it was on in primetime on 25 of the 34 days, often in a double bill.

Late night. Naked Attraction usually follows just after midnight, with Dating Naked USA around 11.05pm on some nights and Vanderpump Rules in the small hours.

Reality at night, cartoons at the weekend

Reality is E4’s biggest genre, at 32% of all airtime and half of primetime. Sitcoms take 29% across the day, animation 27%. The weekend shifts the balance rather than the character: sitcoms fall from a third of weekday airtime to 14%, and animation rises to 33%, which in practice means even more Simpsons.

Films are an extra rather than a habit, at about four a week and 6% of primetime. Those in our window were mainstream action and comedy: two Mission: Impossible films (Rogue Nation and Dead Reckoning), Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Uncharted, Free Guy, Speed, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Independence Day, usually at 9pm or in an early-evening slot around 6.15pm to 7.10pm.

Popular shows on E4

The Simpsons is the channel’s spine, on all 34 days we measured and by a distance the most-shown programme.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is an American sitcom and police procedural that began in 2013, starring Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio and Chelsea Peretti, with 153 episodes over eight seasons. It is E4’s 7.30pm fixture.

Modern Family is an American mockumentary sitcom that began in 2009, with Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Ed O’Neill, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sarah Hyland among its cast, and 250 episodes over 11 seasons. That depth is why it can fill late mornings indefinitely.

Hollyoaks is a British soap opera that began in 1995, with more than 4,700 episodes. On E4 it is the 7pm slot on the nights it airs and an omnibus on some mornings.

First Dates is the British version of the dating reality format, first shown in 2013, with Fred Sirieix, CiCi Coleman and Merlin Griffiths among its regulars. It ran on 29 days in our window, usually at 8pm.

Made in Chelsea is a British scripted reality series that began on E4 in 2011 and has run to 31 series. It takes the 9pm slot on some evenings.

How to watch E4

E4 is free-to-air on Freeview channel 13, Sky 135 (136 in Scotland, 126 on Sky Glass), Virgin Media 106, Freesat 122 and Freely 13. E4+1 is on Freeview 30 and Sky 235. The free Channel 4 streaming service shows E4 live and on demand. Watching any channel live in the UK needs a TV Licence.

E4 and the rest of the Channel 4 family

E4’s siblings are Channel 4, E4 Extra, More4, Film4 and 4seven. Channel 4 shares some of the same sitcom habit in the mornings but builds its evenings on news and documentaries. More4 is the older, factual sibling. Film4 is the place for films rather than E4’s occasional blockbuster. 4seven replays recent Channel 4 shows.

Outside the family, ITV2 is E4’s nearest rival, with Big Brother and game shows in the evening instead of dating series.

Who it’s for

E4 is aimed at people who want something familiar and funny on without having to choose: a Simpsons episode they have seen, then another one. In the evening it suits viewers who like dating shows and Gogglebox. It has no news, no sport and almost no British drama beyond Hollyoaks.

What channel is E4 on Freeview?

E4 is on Freeview channel 13, and E4+1 is on 30.

Can I watch E4 online?

Yes. The Channel 4 streaming service carries E4 live and on demand, free.

Is The Simpsons on E4 every day?

In the five weeks we tracked, yes: it was on all 34 days, usually in several blocks between lunchtime and early evening.

What time is Gogglebox on E4?

Usually 10pm, often as two back-to-back episodes.
