Full GREAT! Movies listings for Tuesday 27 October 2026, with times in London local time.

Great Movies spends tonight on crime, and Castle is the best of it

The channel’s name promises films, but tonight’s primetime is a run of American crime series, and Castle at 19:00 is the best of them. Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic lead the cast of a police procedural comedy drama that ran from 2009 to 2016, with 173 episodes over eight series. Tonight is “Once Upon a Time in the West”, from series seven, and it faces The One Show on BBC One and NCIS on 5USA, so it is the obvious choice for anyone who wants a crime hour at seven.

Unforgettable follows at 20:00 with “Gut Check”. It is a CBS procedural with Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh, and it is on twice today, with the earlier showing at noon opening series four. That repetition tells you what this channel is: a rolling crime strand rather than an appointment. At 21:00 In Plain Sight continues with “Second Crime Around”, also on earlier in the day.

The slot that is a real film comes late. Curious Caterer: Dying for Chocolate (2022) starts at 22:00 with Nikki Deloach and Andrew W. Walker, and is split into two parts, the second at 23:01. It is followed at 23:55 by The Gourmet Detective: Death Al Dente (2016), with Dylan Neal and Brooke Burns. These are cosy mysteries made for television, and they suit a late hour better than a primetime one.

Earlier, the daytime is a long haul of Murder, She Wrote and Diagnosis Murder, and the overnight hours belong to thrillers and teleshopping.

Pick: Castle at seven. After that, the night gets steadily quieter.

Cosy murder, mostly on television

GREAT! Movies is a crime channel more than a film channel. Its weekdays are built on four American detective series, with Murder, She Wrote and Diagnosis Murder in the afternoon and Castle, Unforgettable and In Plain Sight in the evening, and its films are almost all the same kind of film: made-for-TV mysteries from long-running franchises, with an amateur sleuth, a small town and a title like Mystery 101: Words Can Kill. The overnight slots go to darker TV thrillers with names such as Ex-Wife Killer and A Murderer Upstairs.

It is also one of the most repetitive channels we follow. Across the five weeks we tracked, 76% of airtime went to titles that recur on three or more days.

What a GREAT! Movies day looks like

The day starts with three hours of teleshopping from 5am, on all 34 days. At 8am a mystery TV film begins, and from here on you will meet the channel’s habit: Good News from GREAT!, a bulletin of a few minutes, drops into the middle of a film or between programmes several times a day. It aired 213 times in the window. Expect most films to pause for it once.

Weekday daytime is a procedural relay. Murder, She Wrote usually takes the late morning, then Unforgettable at noon, In Plain Sight at 1pm, Castle at 2pm and Diagnosis Murder at 3pm, often two episodes back to back. Murder, She Wrote returns for the 5pm and 6pm hours.

The 6pm to 10.30pm evening is fixed on weekdays. Castle at 7pm, Unforgettable at 8pm and In Plain Sight at 9pm each held those slots on 25 or 21 of the 34 days, which on this channel means nearly every weekday. Crime drama takes 41% of primetime. At 10pm comes a mystery TV film, or Reef Break, which ran at 10pm through part of the window. Another mystery film follows around 11.50pm, and the small hours from about 1am to 4.30am belong to the thrillers.

Weekends are a different shape. Crime drama in the narrow sense falls from 26% of weekday airtime to 4%, and the mystery films and drama take over. A weekend afternoon can be one long run of Murder, She Wrote, eight episodes in a row from 1pm to 9pm, before a film at 9pm.

Popular shows on GREAT! Movies

Murder, She Wrote is the channel’s biggest single title, with 122 airings on 30 of the 34 days. The American detective series began on CBS in 1984 and ran to 12 seasons and 264 episodes, starring Angela Lansbury.

Diagnosis Murder is the CBS medical-mystery crime series from 1993, eight seasons and 178 episodes, starring Dick Van Dyke and Barry Van Dyke. It is an afternoon fixture, on 32 of the 34 days.

Castle and Unforgettable are the 7pm and 8pm weekday regulars, both crime dramas, and both also run in the daytime. In Plain Sight completes the evening at 9pm.

Reef Break, the 2019 ABC crime drama starring Poppy Montgomery, 13 episodes long, took the 10pm slot on seven nights.

The mystery films are where GREAT! Movies earns its name, and they come in franchises. The Hailey Dean Mysteries star Kellie Martin, with Nancy Grace in the cast; Mystery 101 stars Jill Wagner and Kristoffer Polaha; The Gourmet Detective films star Dylan Neal and Brooke Burns; Matchmaker Mysteries pairs Danica McKellar with Victor Webster and Bruce Boxleitner; the Ruby Herring Mysteries star Taylor Cole and Stephen Huszar; Chronicle Mysteries stars Alison Sweeney; and Garage Sale Mystery stars Lori Loughlin. Directors such as Terry Ingram and Michael Robison made several of them. Most were made in the late 2010s.

How to watch GREAT! Movies

GREAT! Movies is no longer a broadcast channel. It is delivered over the internet: Freeview channel 62 works only on a Freeview Play TV connected to broadband, and it cannot be recorded. It is also on Freely, as channel 57. It streams free on Great! Player (Freeview channel 63 on connected TVs) and on Samsung TV Plus. It is not on Sky, Virgin Media or Freesat. Watching any channel live needs a TV Licence.

GREAT! Movies and its sister channels

GREAT! Movies has four siblings. GREAT! TV is the classic-series channel, with The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie by day and MAS*H at night. GREAT! Action runs Burn Notice, The Unit and an action film at 9pm. GREAT! Romance runs romantic TV films in the same made-for-TV style, and turns into its Christmas version in the late autumn and winter. GREAT! Mystery, which we do not cover separately, completes the family.

Outside the family, 5USA is the obvious place for more American crime series: crime drama takes most of its airtime, with NCIS and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in the evening.

Who it’s for

This is a channel for someone who likes a murder solved politely, by a novelist, a doctor or a chef, and does not need a big-screen film to get there. The weekday evening is as dependable as anything we track. Anyone after a cinema release will be disappointed: the films are TV mysteries, and the name is the only thing big about them.

What channel is GREAT! Movies on Freeview?

It is on Freeview channel 62, but only on a broadband-connected Freeview Play TV, because it is now delivered over the internet. It is also on Freely 57.

Can I watch GREAT! Movies online?

Yes, free on Great! Player and on Samsung TV Plus.

Does GREAT! Movies show cinema films?

Rarely. Nearly all its films are made-for-TV mysteries and thrillers, most from the last ten years or so.

What’s on GREAT! Movies most evenings?

On weekdays, Castle at 7pm, Unforgettable at 8pm, In Plain Sight at 9pm and a mystery TV film at 10pm.
