Blaze has a lot of series openers tonight, and one of them is on twice
The channel’s biggest bet is Henry Cole’s Great British Treasure Hunt, which starts its first series at 9pm and was already on at 7.30 this morning. Showing a series opener twice in one day is a confident move or a nervous one, and the 9pm placement, opposite Gogglebox on E4 and Blue Lights on BBC One, suggests Blaze wants the audience that has finished with both. It is the pick, though only just: three stars until there is more than one episode to judge.
The 10pm slot has Weird Britain beginning its third series with a Shropshire episode. It sits well after the treasure hunt, since the channel’s evenings lean towards the oddball, and it is the stronger idea of the two. At 11pm Prison Chronicles takes over with two half-hour episodes, Devil’s Island and Andersonville, which also ran earlier in the window.
Before all that, Dickinson’s Real Deal holds 7pm and 8pm, Ilkeston 2 and Ilkeston 3 in the tenth series. It is a daily fixture here, so nobody should read the double bill as an event; it is simply how Blaze fills a weeknight. ITV1 was the original broadcaster, and the format is a comfortable one. At 6pm Alien Corridors opens with a Washington State episode, and it will be back on six days in the window. Two stars: it needs to be persuasive, and the lead-in to a run of antiques shows is an awkward place to try.
Elsewhere, What on Earth? runs from 9.20am to 12.10pm and returns later in the day, which is plenty. Storage Wars Texas also airs twice. Daytime is repeats and strands. Evening is where Blaze is doing something.

Pawn shops by day, ancient mysteries by night
Blaze runs two schedules under one name. From breakfast to early evening it is a channel of pawn shops, storage auctions and antiques valuations, much of it American. After 9pm it becomes something else: a channel of unexplained history, aliens, lost treasure and organised crime. Reality takes 46% of Blaze’s whole day but only 10% of the hours between 7pm and 11pm, while science, history and documentary together rise to more than half of the evening. Few channels change character so completely across a single day.
It is also a crowded schedule. The median day we tracked held 30 programmes, and the busiest 36, because so much of the daytime is built from short episodes played back to back. Across 34 days, 94% of airtime went to titles that recurred on three or more days.
What its day looks like
The morning is collectables. Dickinson’s Real Deal opens the day around 6am and is Blaze’s most-aired title, with 111 showings over 29 days. Pawn Stars follows at about 6.45am, Canadian Pickers held 7.30am on 13 days, and Storage Hunters or Money for Nothing take the 8.25am slot.
The afternoon is storage units. Storage Wars Canada and Storage Wars Texas share the 2.05pm slot, and Storage Wars proper, with 103 airings across 22 days, usually runs from 3.05pm. The tone starts to shift at 4.05pm, when Ancient Aliens arrives on most days, and 5pm belongs to UFO series: UFO: POV, In Search of Aliens and Close Encounters Down Under.
The evening, 6pm to 10.30pm, starts on the mechanical side. Junk and Disorderly and its spin-off, Junk & Disorderly: Henry’s Wreck-Trospective, hold 6pm on most days, with The Curse of Oak Island at around 6.05pm on others. Dickinson’s Real Deal returns at 7pm on 25 evenings, usually a double bill, and some nights Holy Marvels With Dennis Quaid takes its place. Then the turn: at 9pm the channel rotates between The Curse of Oak Island, Ancient Aliens, Secrets Declassified With David Duchovny, My Strange Arrest and specials such as Bradley Walsh: Egypt’s Cosmic Code. At 10pm, What on Earth? appeared on 15 evenings, alternating with History’s Greatest Mysteries, UFO Chronicles, Britain’s X Files, Mafia: Most Wanted and Gangland Chronicles.
Late night keeps the mood. The UnXplained With William Shatner often starts at 11pm, The Bermuda Triangle: Into Cursed Waters around 1am, and the 2am slot belongs to true crime: Killer Britain With Dermot Murnaghan held it on 26 nights without moving, with The Killer Interview with Piers Morgan on others. Hardcore Pawn then fills the small hours, usually from around 3.45am.
Popular shows on Blaze
Dickinson’s Real Deal is a British antiques and collectables programme first shown on ITV1 in 2006. On Blaze it is the busiest title in the schedule, with morning runs and an evening double bill.
Storage Wars and its spin-offs are the channel’s afternoon. Together, Storage Wars, Storage Wars Canada and Storage Wars Texas made 185 appearances in five weeks.
Hardcore Pawn is an American reality series from 2010, first shown on TruTV, with nine series and 162 episodes. Blaze showed it 106 times, mostly overnight.
Ancient Aliens is the bridge between Blaze’s two halves, appearing on 25 days at around 4.05pm and sometimes at 9pm. It is the clearest single signal of what the channel’s evenings are about.
Killer Britain With Dermot Murnaghan is a British true crime series from 2020, presented by Dermot Murnaghan, with four series and 25 episodes. It held 2am on 26 nights.
Canadian Pickers is a Canadian reality series from 2011, with four series and 39 episodes, and the 7.30am fixture on the days it appears.
How to watch Blaze
Blaze is free to air on Freeview channel 64, with Blaze+1 on Freeview 92. It is on Sky 156, Sky Glass 169, Virgin Media 174, Freesat 161 and Freely 41. You can also watch it live and catch up for free on the Blaze website and app. A TV Licence is needed to watch or record it live, as with any UK channel.
Blaze and its sister channels
Blaze’s sister channels are Crime+Investigation and Sky History, neither of which we cover. Both share some of its interests: crime documentaries like the ones in Blaze’s late night, and the history and mystery series of its evenings.
Among the channels we do cover, Quest is the closest match for the daytime, with its salvage and auction series, though Quest stays with restoration all evening rather than turning to aliens. Really shares the auction-room habit and has its own paranormal strand, but places it in the small hours rather than in the evening.
Who it’s for
Blaze is for two kinds of viewer, and they may well be the same person: someone who likes watching a deal being struck over a counter, and someone who will happily spend an hour on whether the pyramids were built by visitors from elsewhere. The weekend leans further towards the second: history rises from 2% of weekday airtime to 10% at weekends, while collectibles drops from 14% to almost nothing. If you want drama or films, Blaze has close to none.
What channel is Blaze on Freeview?
Blaze is on Freeview channel 64, and Blaze+1 is on Freeview 92.
Can I watch Blaze online?
Yes. The Blaze website and app stream it live, with catch-up, for free.
What’s on Blaze most evenings?
Junk and Disorderly or The Curse of Oak Island at 6pm, Dickinson’s Real Deal at 7pm, then mystery and unexplained-history documentaries at 9pm and 10pm.
Does Blaze show films?
Almost never. Over five weeks we counted close to no films.
