Full E4 listings for Wednesday 28 October 2026, with times in London local time.

E4’s Wednesday is a sitcom, a first date and a sofa

E4 has built a tidy evening out of three things it does reliably: a half-hour sitcom, an hour of strangers meeting over dinner, and an hour of other people watching telly. The best of them is First Dates at 8pm, and it is where the night should be spent.

First Dates is the draw

Episode 2 of series 15 is the anchor, and it comes from a format with 50 episodes behind it on Channel 4 and a cast that hasn’t changed much: Fred Sirieix, CiCi Coleman and Merlin Griffiths. That consistency is the whole appeal. You know the room, you know who is pouring the drinks, and the only variable is who walks in. It also faces the weakest opposition of the night. Celebrity Race Across the World on BBC One is the obvious alternative, and Dickinson’s Real Deal is on Blaze. Neither is trying to do the same job.

An hour is the right length for it. Four stars, and the pick.

The half-hour before it

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, at 7.30, is the best use of half an hour on the channel. Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero and Joe Lo Truglio lead a cast that ran for eight series and 153 episodes. Tonight’s is Det. Dave Majors, from series two. It airs every day on E4, so it is a fixture rather than a find, but a good fixture. EastEnders and Sharpe are among the things it is up against, and neither is much of a rival for anyone who wants to laugh.

Hollyoaks leads in at 7pm. It is a soap with 4,795 episodes behind it, and E4 shows it twice today, the morning pair at 6am and this one. Two stars is a verdict on the slot rather than the show: it is habit scheduling, and nothing about it says event.

Later

At 9pm, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA presents Golden Girls. Gordon Ramsay fronts the American version, which ran for nine series and 112 episodes, and E4 fills its mornings and small hours with it too, so primetime is the better showcase. It faces What on Earth? on Blaze and Who Do You Think You Are? on BBC One. Three stars.

Gogglebox follows at 10, an hour long, and it is Episode 5. It is a very different kind of television from First Dates, in that you are watching people watch things, but it holds up as a closing act because it is easy to dip in and out of, and the BBC News at Ten is the main alternative. Three stars.

The rest of the day

If you are up in the small hours, Naked Attraction opens a new series at five past midnight with Brian and Shaida. It is a dating show with Anna Richardson attached, and it turns up on E4 most days. At 11pm Dating Naked USA closes the evening, as it has on seven days in the window.

Daytime is mostly sitcom run-ons. The Simpsons fills four half-hours from 5pm, starting with He Loves to Fly and He D’ohs, and Modern Family takes two blocks of its own. If the sofa is where you’re headed, the Simpsons run at five is the better of the two, because it ends right as Hollyoaks begins.

Bottom line: stay put from 7.30 to 10pm. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, First Dates and Gogglebox make an evening that needs no remote.
