Witches of Essex at nine is the best idea on Blaze tonight, and it is a series opener. Hatfield Peverel (1566) is the first episode of a history documentary that has found its night: 31 October, and a subject that needs no explaining.

Around it, Blaze has stacked a primetime that is almost entirely new starts. Mysteries Unearthed With Danny Trejo begins at seven with Mysterious Structures and carries on at eight with Hidden Treasures, a two-hour block fronted by Trejo. It is the safer choice of the two evenings on offer, with a clear run against a rival slate of property shows and procedurals, but it is also the channel’s own repeat-prone product: this title turns up on three days in the coming window, so no one needs to panic about missing it.
