Blaze gives primetime to two shows and no one else

Blaze has made up its mind about Wednesday evening: two hours of Dickinson’s Real Deal, then two hours of What on Earth?, and nothing else gets a look in. Stay for the first pair if you like a valuation, and treat the gear change at nine as a separate decision.

Dickinson’s Real Deal is the pick, though only just. Ilkeston 4 is at seven and Huddersfield 1 at eight, episodes 72 and 73 of series 10. It began on ITV1 and it airs on Blaze every single day, which makes it furniture. At seven it faces The One Show on BBC One and Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing on BBC Two, both easy company, and neither sells a bargain.

What on Earth? takes over at nine with Riddle in the Ruins, then Stonehenge of the Holy Land at ten, episodes 3 and 4 of series 3. The series started on the Science Channel and has reached 59 episodes, with Mike Capps in the cast. At nine it is up against Who Do You Think You Are? on BBC One and Max Payne on 5STAR, which is stiff. At ten the opposition is BBC News at Ten and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, so the second hour is the easier sell.

The surprise comes much earlier. Canadian Pickers has a series opener at 7.30am: A Jumbo Pick, episode 1 of series 2. The programme stands at 39 episodes over four series, and it turns up on Blaze on most weekdays. A series opener at that hour is a rare thing on a channel built on daily strands, but it is also an hour when few people are watching.

Strange Evidence closes the day at eleven with Alien of the Amazon.
