Yesterday has spent Saturday primetime on one subject
Four primetime hours, and every one of them is about old cars. Bangers & Cash opens at 7pm, a Restoring Classics spin-off follows at 8pm, Classic Car Kings is on at 9pm and Bangers & Cash comes round again at 10pm. If that is your thing, this is a night with no gaps. If it isn’t, the channel offers little else in the evening.
Classic Car Kings is the one to pick
Classic Car Kings at 9pm is the best chance of a change of pace. It sits in the middle of the block, after two hours of Bangers & Cash and before the same programme returns, and it airs on only two days in the window, so it feels more special than its neighbours. Opposite it are Celebrity Gogglebox on E4 and a pair of films on 5action and 5star, so anyone who wants cars rather than noise has a clear choice.
Bangers & Cash is a fixture
Bangers & Cash airs on every day in the window, so this is a staple, and Yesterday is not shy of it tonight: 7pm, 10pm and 11pm, with another at midnight. The Restoring Classics variant at 8pm is on eight days in the window and works as the middle gear between the main show and the late-night repeats. At 7pm it faces Motorway Cops on 5star and NCIS: Los Angeles on 5usa, which draw a different audience. If you like it, you will not run short; if you came for variety, you have the wrong channel at this hour.
Frozen Planet is the real draw before primetime
The best programming on the day is earlier. Frozen Planet runs twice, at 5pm and 6pm, and it is the one slot that offers something other than cars, engines or railways. It airs on two days in the window, so catch it while you can. After it, the evening narrows hard.
The rest of the day
Daytime is Great Continental Railway Journeys four times over breakfast and morning, then Saving Lives At Sea, Train Rescue Down Under, a double of Flipping Bangers and a double of Canal Boat Diaries. Michael Palin: Travels of a Lifetime has the 4pm slot. The table has the rest.
Watch Frozen Planet, then decide if you are in for a long night of bangers.
