More4 is a long run of Four in a Bed, then two hours of emergency-services documentaries

More4’s Sunday evening is built from two blocks, and neither asks much of you. Five episodes of Four in a Bed fill the stretch from 6.25pm to 9pm, and then the channel switches to emergency-services documentaries for the rest of the night. 999: On the Front Line is the one to watch.

It starts at 9pm, series 15, episode seven, and runs for an hour. The programme has been on More4 on seven days in this window, so it’s a channel staple, and tonight it’s up against Gogglebox on 4seven, One Born Every Minute on E4 and Live: NFL on 5. That’s a lot of choice at 9pm. For anyone who wants a factual hour about the emergency services, though, this is the clear option. A solid three stars.

Paramedics follows at 10pm, series one, episode three. It’s an Australian series, originally on the Nine Network, so it’s a change of accent from the UK programme that precedes it. The two sit together well. At 10pm it competes with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on 5USA and BBC Weekend News, which means the viewer who has stuck around for 999 has good reason to stay. 24 Hours in A&E closes things at 11pm with episode nine, and that’s a third medical documentary for anybody still up.

Four in a Bed deserves a word because it’s most of the evening. The episodes are The Hillcroft, The Bear and Swan, Guesthouse East, Shirley B&B and Payment Day, all series 12. It’s a long haul if you don’t enjoy it, and on a Sunday it’s a lot of the same format. It’s easy television, and nothing more.

Before that, the day belongs to A Place in the Sun. Seven episodes run back to back from 8.55am to 3.50pm, taking in Abruzzo, Cyprus, Oliva, Puglia, Crete, Palma and Menorca. Come Dine with Me follows with five Chelmsford episodes from 3.50pm. Two thirds of the day is property programmes and dinner parties, which is the channel’s usual Sunday and is not a hardship for those who like it.
