More4 gives the evening to dogs, then to the pub, then to A&E

The Dog House at 19:55 is the reason to be on More4 tonight, and the channel knows it: The Dog House Australia runs straight before it at 18:50, so anyone settling in for the evening gets two hours of rehoming documentary back to back. The 19:55 episode is Episode 4 of series nine, 65 minutes long, and it’s on ten days in the window we can see. That regularity cuts both ways. It’s a dependable hour, but there is no sense of an event about it. Four stars, because the format does what it sets out to do and this is the best fit for the slot.

The surprise is the 21:00 programme. Our Yorkshire Pub Rescue with Jon Richardson is Episode 3 of its first series, a home-improvement title, and one of the few things on the channel today that isn’t a long-running strand. It’s up against Gogglebox on E4 and The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked on BBC One, and it appears on only two days in the window, so this is the part of the night where More4 is actually trying something. Three stars: worth a look, with the sort of rating that goes up if the series builds.

Then the obligation. 24 Hours in A&E takes 22:00 with Episode 4 of series 36, and again at 23:05 with a different episode from series 34. It also has two overnight airings, so four in all on the day. The hospital documentary is Channel 4’s reliable filler and three stars is about right: solid, unspectacular, and always there.

The daytime is Four in a Bed and Come Dine with Me end to end, and series 12 of Four in a Bed opens at 14:15. That’s the one daytime note worth making. Everything else is a table row.
