Great Romance has gone full Christmas, one film at a time and each one twice

The honest description of today’s Great Romance is that it is one long Christmas film, cut into hour-sized pieces. Every title in the day’s line-up airs twice in a row, split into two episode slots with a five-minute Good News from GREAT! bulletin wedged in between. Nine films get this treatment between 08:15 and the early hours, and none of them is hidden away overnight.

The best primetime bet is The Christmas Contest at 20:00, a 2021 film with Candace Cameron Bure and John Brotherton. It runs in two parts, 55 minutes and then 50 at 21:00, and it faces The Celebrity Traitors on BBC One, so it is the quieter option for anyone who has had enough of cloaks and betrayal. Christmas Getaway, a 2017 film with Bridget Regan and Travis Van Winkle, fills the 19:05 slot before it.

The late shift belongs to Christmas à La Carte, a 2021 film with Erin Agostino and Dillon Casey, at 21:50 and again at 22:50. A Christmas Switch follows at 23:50 for anyone still up.

Earlier, Christmas Joy (14:10) is the one with a clear pedigree: a Hallmark Channel film with Danielle Panabaker and Matt Long, directed by Monika Mitchell.
