Quest’s Saturday evening is a ramp that peaks late: Richard Hammond’s Workshop at 7pm, Sam Lovegrove: Race Mechanic at 8pm, then The Repair Shop at 9pm and again at 10pm. It is the only programme in the evening with a name that carries real weight, and it gets two slots back to back for a reason.

The Repair Shop at 9pm and 10pm

The Repair Shop is a British documentary and reality series, with Jay Blades and Will Kirk in the cast, and it originally aired on the BBC. Quest gives it a double bill, which suits the format: you can settle in for an hour and decide whether to stay for the next. It airs on every day in the window, so a double on a Saturday night is the channel putting its strongest card forward. Opposite it at nine are Celebrity Gogglebox on E4 and a pair of films on 5action and 5star. At ten the nearest rivals are Top of the Pops on BBC Two and the BBC Weekend News. I would pick it for 9pm and pay no attention to the second airing unless you are hooked.

The two before it

Richard Hammond’s Workshop opens primetime and is the longest programme in the evening. It airs on three days in the window, so it is not a fixture, and the channel has little to tell you about it beyond the title. The fact that it is the 7pm anchor says something about how Quest sees it. Sam Lovegrove: Race Mechanic follows at 8pm and also airs at 8am, which is a lot of the same programme in one day. It is a workable lead-in, but I would not plan a night around it.

The rest of the day

The schedule is wide rather than deep. Wheeler Dealers fills five hours from 10am to 3pm, New: MotoGP takes 9am, and Shed And Buried and its Classic Cars spin-off run from 3pm to 7pm. British Superbikes has 90 minutes at 6.30am. The late slot goes to Aussie Gold Hunters at 11pm. How Do They Do It? and Salvage Hunters turn up overnight.
