Quest builds towards The Repair Shop, and the rest is a warm-up

Quest’s Thursday is a ladder of hobby television that tops out at 10pm with The Repair Shop. It started on BBC and sits in the evening as the calm end of a busy run. It is the pick, at four stars, mainly because everything before it is lighter by comparison and it is the one programme that does not depend on a theme.

Against it, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on 5USA and BBC News at Ten are very different propositions, so this is the slot for anyone who wants an hour that asks for nothing.

Antiques Road Trip opens primetime at 7pm. It is the longest programme in the evening and appeared on BBC Two first. It airs here on all ten days in the window, so it needs no introduction, and it faces The One Show and Police Interceptors. Three stars: dependable, but nobody is rearranging their night for it.

The 9pm slot goes to Aussie Gold Hunters, billed as New, and it is a slightly odd one. It also turns up at 9am and 10am today, so the channel has used the title three times in one day. That is generous exposure for a single series, but the 9pm showing is the one with the label on it. Three stars. It runs against Gogglebox on E4 and The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked on BBC One.

Shed And Buried takes 8pm and 8.30pm as two half-hour slots, and it has already been on twice this afternoon, at 3pm and 3.30pm. That is a lot of Shed And Buried for one day. Two stars: the title is a fixture and the evening version offers little that the afternoon did not.

Late on, How Do They Do It? plays twice, at 11pm and 11.30pm, after two showings overnight. It is half-hour filler that does its job and goes away.
