Dave’s Sunday is a panel-show ladder, and the top rung is at nine

Have I Got News for You at 9pm is the best of Dave’s Sunday, and the channel knows it: everything from 9pm to midnight is built to keep you on the sofa once it has started. The show has run for 69 series and 610 episodes to date, and it sits against One Born Every Minute on E4 and Gogglebox on 4seven. It also aired on 25 October, so this is a second look for anyone who watched last week.

The ladder then goes down. QI follows at 10pm for 40 minutes, then Mock the Week at 10.40pm, and the same Mock the Week returns at 11.20pm. That repeat is the weakest scheduling choice of the night. Mock the Week is on twice today and has aired on eight days in the window, so by now it is wallpaper. It has 15 series and 181 episodes to date, which is plenty of material to fill the slot with, and showing the same title back to back in the small hours does it no favours. Take the 10.40 showing if you want it and leave the second.

Earlier, the channel opens primetime with Our Guy in India at 7pm and follows it with Will and Ralf Should Know Better at 8pm. Neither title comes with much to hang a verdict on, and both have aired twice in the window, so treat them as an easy start to the evening. Against Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One, the 7pm hour is a quiet counter-programme and no more.

The daytime is the usual Dave fixture list. Would I Lie To You? runs in a long block through the afternoon and early evening, which is a lot of the same format, and World’s Most Dangerous Roads and Yukon Gold are each on twice. The three-hour Red Bull Soapbox Race 2017: London at 10.40am is a curiosity, though it is hard to see who it is for on a Sunday morning.

Verdict: tune in at nine, stay for QI, and skip the second Mock the Week.
