Sky Arts spends two hours on Rocky Horror at nine

Sky Arts hands its whole primetime to one idea on Thursday: a two-hour Strange Journey: The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 9pm, a 2025 piece with Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Richard O’Brien, Jack Black, Trixie Mattell and Barry Bostwick in the cast list. Two hours is a serious commitment for a channel that usually works in 30 and 60-minute blocks, and it is the clear reason to be here. It starts against The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked on BBC One, so anyone choosing between the two is picking between the weekly talking point and a deep look at a film that has outlived most of its contemporaries. We’d take the film.

The build-up is steadier than spectacular. Portrait Artist of the Year opens primetime at 7pm with Danny Beard, Yalda Hakim and Arti Shah in the chair, and it is one of the channel’s reliable draws: it airs on most days in the window, as does Landscape Artist of the Year at 5pm. At 8pm comes Classic Movies: The Story Of, the Dead Of Night edition, which means a film-history hour leading straight into a film-themed two-hour special. That sequencing is sensible. The same Dead Of Night episode also turns up at 2am, so there is no need to stay up for it.

Daytime is wall-to-wall Tales of the Unexpected, six half-hours of it, starting again at 6pm. Fine if you like it, but not a reason to tune in.
