Legend closes with a Stallone double bill

Legend’s evening is built to end on Sylvester Stallone, and Driven at nine is the better of the two films it has chosen. The 2001 racing picture was directed by Renny Harlin and also stars Burt Reynolds and Kip Pardue. It runs for 145 minutes, which is a long sit, so start on time or skip it. Three stars, and the channel’s pick.

The run-up is reliable rather than exciting. Babylon 5 is at seven, with Meditations on the Abyss in series 5, and the show has five series and 110 episodes behind it. Walker, Texas Ranger follows at eight with Mayday. It is a busy day for that one, since Legend also has it at 8am, and it stands at 203 episodes over nine series. Both shows are comfortable and neither will surprise you.

At 11.25pm Escape Plan 3 brings Stallone back, this time with 50 Cent, Dave Bautista and Devon Sawa. It was made in 2019. Two stars: it is a late-night filler, and after Driven it makes a second helping of the same lead a bit much.

Earlier, the daytime films are Shark Lake with Dolph Lundgren at eleven, and Damn the Defiant! at one, with Alec Guinness and Dirk Bogarde, if you are home during the day.
