Great Movies spends the whole evening on crime

Great Movies puts Castle at 7pm and has no intention of letting go of the genre. Kill Switch is episode eight of the seventh series, and the show’s eight series and 173 episodes to date explain why a channel built around mystery keeps coming back to it. Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic lead. The channel also shows an earlier Castle at 2pm, so it is a double helping.

The choice at 7pm is a fair one. NCIS is on 5USA and The One Show on BBC One, so this is the lighter option for anyone who wants a crime hour with some comedy in it.

Unforgettable follows at 8pm with Behind the Beat, a four-series CBS procedural led by Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh. It is a perfectly sound second course. In Plain Sight at 9pm is the weakest link in the chain, if only because the evening is by then more of the same.

The change of pace is at 10pm. Darrow & Darrow: Body of Evidence is a 2018 television film with Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Tom Cavanagh and Wendie Malick, shown in two parts, one at 10pm and one at 11.01pm. It is the best reason to stay up. Hailey Dean Mysteries: Killer Sentence follows at 11.55pm with Kellie Martin.

The daytime is mostly Murder, She Wrote and Diagnosis Murder, which are fixtures rather than events.
