A new series of Hey Duggee opens the day

CBeebies has put its best news at 7.05am: series four of Hey Duggee starts today, with Norrie’s First Day. The show has 137 episodes to date over three series, so a fourth run is the sort of milestone a breakfast slot is made for. It comes straight after Bing at 6.45 and two Bluey episodes follow at 7.20, which makes 7am to 8am the strongest hour of the day for anyone holding a toddler and a cup of tea.

Bing is the second thing worth planning around. A second series opens at 9am with Nicky, and the show’s 105 episodes to date say it has long since earned its place. Two more starts follow: The Baby Club’s second series at 10.25 and Time for School’s fourth at 3.05pm.

After that the day is the usual CBeebies weave of short programmes. Teletubbies turns up twice, as does Our Family, and most of the rest of the line-up is a daily fixture that parents will know by heart. That is the point of the channel: reliable, and in short pieces.

The day ends gently. Tom Hardy reads Milo’s Monster as the Bedtime Story at 6.50pm, and the channel hands over to its continuity loop at 6.58.
