Minder gets the best slot, and deserves it

That’s TV hands its longest primetime programme, 65 minutes of Minder at 7:55pm, to the series that has earned it. George Cole headlines a show that ran to 10 series and 108 episodes for ITV, and it is the best argument the channel makes tonight. It also airs at 1:05am and 2:45pm, so the evening showing is the one to catch.

Before it, at 7:20pm, comes Likely Lads: Whatever Happened?, which is on again at 3:40pm. Two goes at it in one day is generous, and at 7:20pm it is the quiet alternative to EastEnders and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

After Minder, the tone shifts. Benidorm, an ITV1 sitcom written by Derren Litten, runs for 55 minutes from 9pm. Then at 9:55pm comes Shameless, the Channel 4 comedy-drama starring David Threlfall, which ran for 11 series. Three stars for Benidorm, which is the sort of thing you either want at 9pm or do not.

The channel closes with Man About the House at 10:55pm and Goodnight Sweetheart at 11:30pm. This is a schedule built for people who know what they want. Pick Minder and you will not be disappointed.
