CBBC keeps its one drama for teatime
Most of CBBC’s Wednesday is animation in ten-minute pieces. The exception is Crookhaven at 6.05pm, a 45-minute drama, the longest slot the channel gives to anything that isn’t a film. The Shilling Test is the fifth episode of the first series, which makes this the one place in the day where a story builds rather than resets.
The other long programme is earlier. Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans, the 2019 film with Greg Cipes, Scott Menville and Khary Payton among the voices, runs 70 minutes from 9.30am. It sits between Witch Detectives and a run of Pablo and Gumball, so it is the morning’s one proper sit-down.
Two openers arrive mid-afternoon: Stage Stars at 2.20pm and Duck and Frog at 2.45pm. Stage Stars is also on at 12.40pm, so the channel clearly expects it to be found. Duck and Frog is an animated series with 25 episodes to date, and it shows up repeatedly through the day, in short slots from 8.25am onwards.
Elsewhere, Newsround at 7.45am is the channel’s one news fixture, and Blue Peter closes the evening with a short piece on the jobs behind the scenes at Wimbledon.
If you only have one slot, make it Crookhaven.
